The Max Planck Research Library for the History and Development of Knowledge is dormant
As part of the Edition Open Access project, the Max Planck Research Library for the History and Development of Knowledge presented three subseries: Studies (monographs and edited volumes with interdisciplinary approaches to one subject matter), Proceedings (of conferences and workshops), and Textbooks.
All of the publications in these series present original peer-reviewed scientific work. They remain available for download in open-access digital formats (PDF files and ebooks) and were formerly available as print-on-demand books. All books were published using the Creative Commons licensing model to safeguard the interests of authors in defining their own rights of use.
To ensure maximum visibility, the different formats were assigned with an individual ISBN (PDF, epub, printed book). Optimal searchability is given in databases, (scientific) search engines, and national and international library catalogues (including KVK, Google Scholar, DOAB, Worldcat). The printed books are listed in the national and international book trade directories (VLB, KNOE, Buchhandel.de, Amazon, etc.).

Proceedings
The Proceedings series presents the peer-reviewed results of a wide range of scientific meetings, for example, from The Globalization of Knowledge in the Iberian Colonial World, which examines the knowledge of botany, medicine, religion and mining in the Spanish and Portuguese colonies, to a volume presenting the results of meeting that examined the history of theory, experimentation, and interpretation of quantum physics.
All Proceedings volumes are listed here:

Studies
The Studies series is dedicated to key subjects in the history and development of knowledge. Each volume brings together diverse disciplinary perspectives, combining source-based empirical research with theoretically informed approaches. Typically emerging from collaborative working groups, the studies explore integrative solutions to topics such as the globalization of knowledge, multilingualism, and the nature of spatial thinking.
The series also highlights many of the MPIWG’s successful collaborations, including with the Bibliotheca Hertziana in Rome on an expansive three-volume history of architecture. This work spans Neolithic Western Asia, the Ancient Near East, Ancient Egypt, Classical Greece and Rome, the Early and High Middle Ages, and early modern Italy. Another notable collaboration, with the Humboldt University in Berlin, led to the publication of research results from a multidisciplinary project on the materiality of photographs and photo archives. Using a feature specially developed for this publication, the online presentation of Photo Objects features extensive photographic material that was linked to the printed volume, but would be beyond the scope of a traditional print publication. These examples underscore the scope of the Studies series and its commitment to advancing interdisciplinary scholarship.

Textbooks
The Textbooks series presented only a limited number of volumes, one of which was the translation into German of the mathematical texts from Jens Høyrup’s book Algebra in Cuneiform. This project was undertaken in the 2019/20 school year by ten students from the St. Gertrudis Gymnasium in Ellwangen under the supervision of mathematician Professor Franz Lemmermeyer.
